Amazon.com Product Description
Harness your dog's pent-up energy to bring your pet supplies or extra gear to the campsite with the Pine Creek dog backpack. The backpack--which is actually a pair of saddlebags that rest over your dog's back--is made of a lightweight material with poly fleece inner surfaces, keeping your dog comfortable and the pack stable on extended trips and hikes. Your dog will enjoy additional comfort via the pack's breathable back panel, which eliminates hot spots and chaffing. And when you're on the trail, the pack holds quite a bit of gear, including dog bowls, food, waste bags, toiletries, extra socks, and other items. The gear is secured safely inside your bag thanks to the large zippered side pockets.

The dog backpack--which includes an integrated ring that attaches to a leash--easily adjusts to provide a custom fit for your dog's shape. The pack is designed for dogs weighing between 40 and 90 pounds and fits girths up to roughly 34 to 35 inches. This backpack is not recommended for shorter breeds, such as Boxers.

5 out of 5 stars adjustable enough to stay put   June 11, 2007

I got this product to help balance my walk energy with a seventy pound Australian Shepherd (training idea seen on the Dog Whisperer). It does work. Harley carries water for both of us as well as the clean up baggies he might require.

The pack stays in place - even if Harley shakes. Only improvement it needs is a way to secure the loose end of the "waist strap" so that it stays out of the way and clean. I sewed it in place after the pack was adjusted.

This pack is solid fabric. That gives strength, but does not allow heat to escape easily.

5 out of 5 stars Backpacks work!   September 27, 2007

I purchased the Dog Backpack Easy Fit Saddlebag in desperation to get my German Shepherd to stop pulling me on her walks. It worked! I should have done this 2 years ago. I agree with another reviewer about this item. At first it was a little difficult to set up(10 minutes). Once done, it takes seconds. Also, there is a very long strap across the abdomen that hung to the ground. Another reviewer said they sewed it. It is easier to just cut it and burn the end. Since it is nylon, it melts the end and there is no fraying. Excellent choice! Caesar Millan would applaud you!

5 out of 5 stars First Dog Pack   December 16, 2008

This is the first dog pack I've ever bought... saw Caesar Milan use it on "The Dog Whisperer".. I used it on my Siberian Husky and I LOVED it. It slowed him down during walks and gives him something to work for (great for working dogs like him). It was so easy to put on, I strapped it on him immediately after opening the package. The strap around his belly is too long and will drag to the ground - NO PROBLEM. Just cut the loose end off! There's a ton of space in both bags, enough for 2 water bottles each! I wouldn't overload the dog just yet.. I got carried away at first and my Husky didn't like it so I only let him carry a few items at first and then slowly increased. He's really wild, runs off everywhere, and rolls in the ground. He did all this and the bag stayed on! I recommend it 100%. Also, I bought one for my 110 lbs Yellow Lab and it fit him perfectly. Would recommend the pack only for dogs 50-100 lbs. All you toy dog owners.. don't waste your time. I could fit your dog in one of the pouches!!

5 out of 5 stars Impressive Quality at an affordable price   February 26, 2009

This pack rivals much more expensive packs. It is made of durable fabric, and has soft fleece lining along the packs, adjustable straps and deep pockets. My dog is about 45-50lbs now at 6 months so I appreciate the adjustable straps in case she is not done growing. The packs can easily hold water bottles, food, treats, extra leashes, baggies, anything and everything you might want to take on a day trip through the city or hiking in the canyons. Would be great for overnight camping as well. Although I would have liked to be able to choose the color, we love the teal color we received. I didn't realize this pack has the trusted Stansport name on it. I am very please and looking forward to training my dog with this pack. We will be using it for city trekking as well as mountain hiking. I would highly suggest this pack for anyone with a larger breed dog, that wants a really nice pack at a great price!

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and comfortable for dog...   February 4, 2010

This pack is well made, the underside is lined with a fleece type material that is soft against the dog. The one that I received happens to be a nice shade of blue, there was no color selection process and I have a male dog so I hoped for a neutral non-feminine color. I haven't noticed any rubbing, but so far we have only gone on 45 minute hikes with the pack. The side bags zip almost all the way around, so you can open it wide for inserting larger objects. It is easy to put on and to get off my puppy, who is a nine month old 65 lb lab/shepherd mix. Once you adjust the size you don't have to worry about it each time you put the pack on, you just buckle the strap that goes under the belly. The strap that goes around the front of the chest does not have a buckle system (it is adjustable, however), it is always in place, you just slide it over the dogs head and then buckle the belly strap closed.

If you would like to snap your leash to the pack rather than your dogs collar, there is a ring on the top back end of the pack. I have used a few different items to weight it down, the first walk we did w/o any weight. I have used hard cover novels, one on each side, and am now using cans of soup (2 per side). There is plenty of room in each side, I am basically using trial and error to see what works best for my dog. You could easily carry several bottles of water, your keys, phone, collapsible bowl, and snacks on a long hike with this pack.

As a side note, this has been great for my very active puppy. We have been through two sessions of obedience training so he is already responsive to many commands, our issues have been leash walking/pulling issues, that seemed to start as he got older and wanted to assert some independence. When this pack goes on, he is all business, he goes right to the door and stands with his nose against the door frame waiting patiently for me to leash him up and head out. I really wanted to avoid a training collar because so many people use them permanently and rely on them as a crutch. I was hoping this product would give me some results in focusing the dog on walks, using some of his energy, and also keeping him at a loose leash stance while walking. We have only been training with it for 4 days and I have to say from day 1 it has worked. He stays right at my left knee when walking and has only pulled when he sees another dog approaching. I'm looking forward to using the pack on hikes in a state park near our home as well as to continue with puppy training. I would highly recommend it as it is cheaper than most collars and serves dual purposes.
